Tata Motors dealerships have unofficially started taking pre-bookings for the upcoming Punch CNG variant. For this, the dealerships are charging a token amount of Rs 21,000. First showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo, the Tata Punch CNG will be the automaker’s next model to come with twin-cylinder technology and is expected to arrive later this month. Tata Motors is yet to officially open the bookings for this model. The model has started reaching dealerships, he said.

Will Get Twin-Cylinder Technology

The Tata Punch will be the first “SUV” from the automaker to get a CNG fuel option. The micro SUV will get the twin-cylinder technology that debuted earlier this year with the Altroz. The highlight of the twin-cylinder technology is that two 30-litre CNG tanks are placed under the cargo space, where the spare wheel is kept in the petrol version. In the CNG variant, the spare wheel is mounted under the vehicle.

Features

The cargo space available in the Punch CNG can be utilised, which sets it apart from other CNG passenger cars currently available. The model will also be offered in multiple variants with features similar to its petrol counterpart. The Punch CNG car is expected to get all the features including projector headlamps, 16-inch alloy wheels, an electric sunroof, as well as a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic climate control, 6 airbags, ABS and more Is.

Engine Power & Gearbox

The car uses a detuned version of the 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine. This engine also powers the Altroz and outputs 76 bhp and 97 Nm in the CNG version. It is paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Information about the cost of the car and the mileage it will give will be available at the launch. The CNG variant is expected to get a price hike of Rs 50,000 to Rs 60,000 over the petrol version.

Competition

Tata Punch CNG is coming just ahead of the festive season. The car will also take on the newly launched Hyundai Xtor CNG, offering an edge over the Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger and Maruti Suzuki Ignis in its segment.
