Earthquakes were felt in pieces of Delhi-NCR, Jammu and Kashmir and on the lines with Afghanistan and Pakistan. As per starting appraisals, the extent of the tremor is supposed to be 5.8 on the Richter scale.

As per the Public Place for Seismology (NCS), the focal point of the quake was in the Hindu Kush locale in Afghanistan, 418 km northwest of Jammu and Kashmir’s Gulmarg region.

Earthquake tremors were felt in Delhi-NCR late Saturday evening. The intensity of the tremors was 5.8. These tremors have been felt at 9:34 in the late evening.

It has come to light that the epicenter of the earthquake was in Hindukush in Afghanistan. So far no information about loss of life or property has been received. An earthquake of magnitude 5.8 is considered an earthquake of medium intensity. However, after the tremors were felt, an atmosphere of panic was seen among the people.\

According to the information revealed, the epicenter of the earthquake was in Hindukush of Afghanistan. Because of this, its tremors have been felt in Jammu and Kashmir as well. Its tremors have been felt in all three Pakistan, Afghanistan and India due to the center being in Hindukush. Earthquakes have occurred many times in Jammu-Kashmir, while Delhi-NCR has also been continuously shaking due to earthquake tremors.

Frequent earthquake tremors felt in Jammu and Kashmir

Months of earthquake were felt in Jammu and Kashmir just last month on 17th July. Earthquake tremors have occurred here in Katra. This earthquake occurred at 10:07 pm. Its intensity was measured at 3.8 on the Richter scale. The tremors of the earthquake were very mild.

The earth in the valley was trembling even on 14th June

Earlier on Wednesday, June 14 last month, earthquake tremors were felt in Jammu and Kashmir. Earthquake tremors were felt in Kishtwar that day. This earthquake of 3.3 magnitude occurred at 8.30 am. That day, for the third time in 18 hours in the state, the earth of the valley was trembling. Earlier on June 14 itself, earthquake tremors were felt at 2 am on Wednesday and on June 13 i.e. Tuesday at 1.30 pm. According to the National Center for Seismology, earthquake tremors were felt at 2 pm on Tuesday-Wednesday. Their intensity on the Richter scale was 4.3. That day also the epicenter of the earthquake was Katra.

There Was An Earthquake on 30 April as Well

Earlier on April 30, earthquake tremors were felt in Jammu and Kashmir. According to the National Center for Seismology, the earthquake occurred at 5.15 am on April 30, measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale. According to the information, the earthquake occurred at 05:15:34 am on Sunday, 30 April. Its center was five kilometers deep inside the ground. The National Center for Seismology tweeted that the intensity of this earthquake on the Richter scale has been measured at 4.1 magnitude.

Earthquake Tremors Occurred Frequently in Delhi.

Earlier on June 13, earthquake tremors were felt in Delhi. Earlier in March, strong tremors of earthquake were felt in many states of India. The intensity of the earthquake on the Richter scale was 6.6. The effect of the earthquake was in entire North India including Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu Kashmir, Himachal, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu Kashmir, Himachal, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The epicenter of the earthquake was the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan.

Why the Danger of Major Earthquake in Delhi?

A major earthquake in Delhi is being predicted for a long time. Experts believe that an earthquake of great intensity can occur in the capital. Actually Delhi is situated in Zone 4 of the seismic zones. The country is divided into four such zones. Due to Delhi being in Zone-4, Delhi cannot tolerate even a single heavy blow of earthquake. Delhi is near the Himalayas which were formed by the meeting of tectonic plates like India and Eurasia. Due to the movement of these plates inside the earth, the risk of earthquake is highest in areas like Delhi, Kanpur and Lucknow.

Delhi Has Three Fault Lines

There are three fault lines Sohna, Mathura and Delhi-Moradabad near Delhi, due to which the possibility of earthquake cannot be ruled out. The Delhi Ridge area is a low risk area. The South West, North West and Western regions are the medium danger zones. The most prone areas are North, North East, Eastern region. The Ministry of Earth Sciences had said in a report that if an earthquake of more than six magnitude on the Richter scale occurs in Delhi, there would be loss of life and property on a large scale.

More than half of the buildings in Delhi will not be able to withstand such shocks, while due to the dense population, there can be a large number of casualties. It is unfortunate that despite the dangers of earthquakes, the capital has not learned its lesson. Here neither measures have been taken to avoid it nor precautions have been taken in the construction of buildings.

Why Do Earthquakes Happen?

The earth is mainly made up of four layers. Inner core, outer core, mantle and crust. The crust and the upper mantle core are called the lithosphere. Now this 50 kilometer thick layer is divided into several sections called tectonic plates. That is, the upper surface of the earth is made up of 7 tectonic plates. These plates are never stable, they keep on moving continuously, when these plates move towards each other, they collide. Sometimes these plates also break. Due to their collision, a large amount of energy is released, due to which there is a stir in the area. Sometimes these tremors are of very low intensity, so they are not even felt. While sometimes they are of such high intensity, that the earth explodes.
